A first grade girl in my Engineering Arts class was so inspired by the hands-on creative projects that she told me she wanted to become a scientist and discover the unknowns in the world. That’s when I realized how much impact I could make as a Maker Fellow.

The Maker Fellowship gave me hands-on experience as a teaching artist and I loved working with my kids in MakerState’s Inventor’s Club. I developed a new Center Stage musical theater course and after the Fellowship, I started my own arts education advocacy non-profit, 5 ’Til Places.

The Maker Fellowship gave me a chance to share my STEM skills with kids while I earned my engineering degree. I got a chance to pursue my dream and become an engineer and I wanted to help give under-resourced kids that shot too.

Supporting our engineers through challenging creative projects and helping them to see their full potential is what made me most proud to be a Maker Fellow. And seeing their smiles and moments of discovery each day as they brainstormed, prototyped, improved and innovated on their designs–that was a great reward.
